The Capital City Outlaws will begin their 2007 Season this weekend, on
Feb 18 against the Staunton Sharks at 2 PM in Staunton. The Outlaws
enter their 5th Season in Springfield with a lot to be happy about. The
Outlaws are the continuation of a 15 year journey of Semi-Pro Football
in Springfield. The Outlaws have recorded 30 victories and 8 losses in
their last three years in the 8FL and are one of the league’s favorites
to win the Championship in 2007. The Outlaws will have to contend with
the Macomb Mayhem, last years Champions, who beat the Springfield
Stallions 44 to 27 in the Championship Game. The Stallions are now
playing in the Continental Indoor Football League.
The Outlaws look to complete their 70th game as a franchise this
season, and will provide Chris Lawson with his 120th game as a Head
Coach in Springfield, as a part of the Springfield Bucs and Outlaws.
His carrier record is 76 wins and 38 losses. In the 2007 season, we
also expect to see some new milestones set with Springfield’s Most
Prolific Quarterback, Dan Eck (Sacred Heart Griffin). Who is on track
to throw his 100th touchdown this season. The team will return 6 of
the 8 All League Players from last season:
Dan Eck-Quarterback
Q Clemons-Fullback
Aaron Boosinger-Offensive Tackle
Tony Shiffman-Center
Cody Yonker-Defensive Tackle
Jarrod Powell- Cornerback
Brent Bordenkircher –Offensive Tackle (Retired)
Troy Helton –Linebacker (Injured Reserve)
The team will highlight the returning running back tandem of Lamarris
Fortune (Springfield High), Q Clemmons (Lanphier High School) and
running back converted receiver in Damon Bishop of Southeast High
School. The offense should see some exciting new comers at wide
receiver, Brady DeClerk of Taylorville and running back Nate Bottom of
Lanphier High School.
The Defense will also have a little new and old this year. Defensive
all-stars, cornerback Jarrod Powell of Girard High School will try to
top his 9 interception best of last season and be complemented by
cornerback Daris Miller of Southeast High School, one of the biggest
hitters in the league. Tim Jones of Greenfield High School will return
this season as defensive end. The fans will also see some sensational
newcomers in defensive end, Jay Russell of Mac Murray College and a
former Decatur Bear. Kalib Brown of Girard High School who will be one
of the staring linebackers and fans will also see SHG force, Andrew
Brewer in the line up at defensive end. This season we should see
exceptional performances from Jason Pochynok of Springfield High at
safety and wide receiver and utility player Billy Noble of Riverton High
School.
The Outlaws will play their first home game on March 4th at 1PM against
the former League Champions, Macomb Mayhem at Four Season Sports behind
Bunn Golf Course.
