Outlaws Take First Place With Win
springfield, il - The Capital City Outlaws(9-1) eight-man football team won Sunday afternoon, beating the Macomb Mayham 34-12 in Springfield.
This week’s game pitted the two best teams in the league, each with an 8-1 record. The Outlaws only loss of the season came from Macomb.
The Outlaws defense started the scoring with Defensive Back Aubrey Collins running an interception back for a touchdown. The offense then took over, moving the ball almost at will. Running back George Wilson had 14 carries for 142 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Dan Eck went 6 for 12 passing for 86 yards and one touchdown. Running Back Craig Rolfe contributed 8 carries for 81 yards and one touchdown.
The Outlaws defense turned in a strong performance, holding Macomb to just 12 points. Troy Helton had 8 tackles and 6 assists and Lex Woolford had 3 sacks.
“This is what football is all about” said Outlaws coach Chris Lawson. “This was two 8-1 teams meeting together and playing to win. It was a great situation. When it came time to make plays, our players did, and I’m proud of all of them.”
The Capital City Outlaws is a semi-professional football team with several Springfield area players. Their next game is May 15th against the Pekin Dominators at Pekin.
