Outlaws Complete Near Perfect Regular Season With Victory

springfield, il  - The Capital City Outlaws(11-1) eight-man football team won Sunday afternoon, beating the Metamora Redbirds 28-18 in Metamora.

 With the victory, the Outlaws finished the regular season of the 8FL League with a record of 11-1, clinching the regular season championship. The Outlaws were given the number one seed in the playoffs, affording them a first-round bye and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.

 The Outlaws scored quickly in their win against the Redbirds when quarterback Dan Eck hit receiver Steve Fristoe on the first play of the game for a 45-yard touchdown pass. Eck went on to throw 3 more touchdown passes and a total of 167 yards passing.

 On Defense, linebacker Jeff Thomas put on a show. Thomas had 16 tackles and 2 assists to lead a defensive unit that kept the Redbirds scoreless through most of the game. The redbirds scored nearly all of their points in the 4^th quarter.

 “This was an extremely well balanced game” said Outlaws coach Chris Lawson. “We scored with four different players. We also had an exceptional effort with Jeff Thomas on defense that really made the difference.”

 The Outlaws have a bye week in the first-round of playoffs which start next weekend. In the second-round, the Outlaws will play the winner of the first-round game between the Farmington Renegades and the Metamora Redbirds, two teams the Outlaws have not lost to this year.

 The Capital City Outlaws is a semi-professional football team with several Springfield area players.
