Outlaws Secure Regular Season Championship With Win
springfield, il - The Capital City Outlaws(10-1) eight-man football team won Sunday afternoon, beating the Pekin Dominators (9-3) 27-14 at the Dragon Dome in Pekin.
The Outlaws have one more game remaining in the regular season, but the outcome won’t make a difference. The Outlaws have secured the best record for the regular season in the 8FL league.
The Outlaws traveled to Pekin to play in the Dragon Dome, a state-of-the-art indoor playing facility. Pekin entered the contest with a record of 9-2. The Outlaws had previously won the only contest between the two teams this year.
Things started well for the Outlaws Defense, with defensive back Aubrey Collins intercepting a pass in the first series of the game. Outlaws Quarterback Dan Eck made the Dominators pay for the error by throwing a 12 yard pass to Collins, in as a receiver, for a touchdown.
In the second quarter, Eck threw a 22 yard pass to receiver Steve Fristoe to open the game up a little, and the Outlaws rolled to a victory from there.
Running back/Defensive back George Wilson put the final touches on the game in the fourth quarter. As a running back, he ran 21 yards for a touchdown. Then, on defense, he intercepted a throw from Pekin Quarterback Derrick DePoef and ran it back for a touchdown, his second TD of the fourth quarter.
Also on defense, Defensive End Lex Woolford had 3 sacks including a sack for a safety and Linebacker Troy Helton had 9 tackles. Linebacker Jeff Thomas contributed 8 tackles with 5 assists.
“It was great to play in the Dragon Dome,” said Outlaws coach Chris Lawson. “What was great about this win was we had outstanding effort from players on offense and on defense. This was truly an Iron Man kind of a game.”
The Capital City Outlaws is a semi-professional football team with several Springfield area players. Their next game is May 22nd against the Metamora Redbirds at Metamora. The Outlaws will have a first round bye in the playoffs after capturing the league regular season title.
