Outlaws win home opener

springfield, il  - The Capital City Outlaws eight-man football team won it’s first game of the season Sunday afternoon, defeating the Jacksonville Sharks 6-2 at Rotary Park in Springfield.

Fierce winds and muddy field conditions made the first game of the season a challenge for both teams. “It’s tough to asses what we need to work on with the conditions we had to play in today” said Outlaws coach Chris Lawson. “But it was a win and there was a lot of individual effort out there today. I look forward to what these guys can do the rest of the season.”

Quarterback Dan Eck went 3 for 9 passing throwing for 32 yards and ran 4 times for 46 yards.

On defense, Linebacker Troy Helton had nine tackles, Jeff Thomas had a fumble recovery and Lex Woolford had 2 sacks.

The Capital City Outlaws is a semi-professional football team with several Springfield area players. Their next game is March 6th against Tazwell here in Springfield at Rotary Park.
